Revise without losing the original.
Rewrite a selected passage, polish a paragraph, or restore an earlier version. You make the final call.
Write fiction in a real manuscript, not a chat window. Let an AI partner join the scene, shape the story together, and keep every word yours to edit.
A workspace made for prose
Write alongside an AI partner in the same editable manuscript. These are real captures from the Windows 0.5.3 Beta build—not design proposals.
Before the first word
Open a new story and write. No mandatory setup, no chat bubbles, no clutter between you and the page.
The rhythm of a story
There is no mandatory worldbuilder, character sheet, or opening wizard standing between you and the first line.
Open a blank story and put words on the page. Work entirely on your own, or bring in a writing partner whenever you choose.
Automatic or manual handoff. Roleplay with assigned characters, or co-write the whole cast. Interrupt or revise a contribution without starting over.
Save locally, maintain references and notes, and return to earlier passages as the manuscript grows. Your story stays editable from beginning to end.
The tools behind the page
The editor comes first. These tools stay nearby without asking you to organize a novel before you've written one.
Rewrite a selected passage, polish a paragraph, or restore an earlier version. You make the final call.
Story Reference, character and location entries, X-Ray links and optional Discovery keep earlier context within reach.
Focus Mode gets the interface out of your way. Adjust typography, reading width, and spacing to suit your writing.
Assign characters in Roleplay, or work together in Co-Writing. Choose how and when an AI partner contributes.
Stories, revisions, notes, and references are saved on your device. Export a restorable story backup separately from a readable manuscript.
Export a readable manuscript as PDF, Word DOCX, Markdown, or plain text when it is time to take it elsewhere.
Stay in the scene
Give the manuscript the whole window, or open the typography controls when you want to tune the reading experience.
The actual 0.5.3 Beta interface
From character references and in-context revisions to collaboration controls, export settings and X-Ray. Every screen shown here comes from the installed application.
Character discoveries, information and notes in one place.
Edit, revise, and work with a specific passage.
Decide who writes which characters and how you collaborate.
Tune how your writing partner contributes to the story.
Take the story out as a readable manuscript.
Relevant character references right beside your writing.
All 12 screenshots on this page were captured from the Windows application on November 5, 2026. They show a blank canvas and the Glasswater continuity-test manuscript; no concept art.
Your writing partner, your choice
VoltaScribe is a desktop writing environment, not a model subscription. Connect a compatible local model or choose a supported remote provider. Writing without any AI works too.
When you use a remote model, the context needed for that request is sent to the provider you've selected. Local inference can stay local.
Version 0.5.3 / Beta
VoltaScribe is free to use on Windows. The 0.5.3 Beta build is in testing; the public installer will appear here when it is ready to share.
No installer URL is configured yet. This site will not send you to a placeholder download.

A few practical things
Enough to get you started. The rest is for the writing.
Yes. VoltaScribe itself is free to use. If you connect a paid remote AI provider or API, that provider's pricing and usage terms are separate.
No. The editor works without an AI connection. Connect a supported model when you'd like a writing partner.
Stories and history live in local storage on your device. VoltaScribe does not automatically upload your manuscript to its developer. If you choose a remote AI connection, selected text and relevant context are sent to that provider when needed for writing or Discovery.
Readable manuscripts export as PDF, Word DOCX, Markdown, or plain text. A separate Story Backup retains the project data needed to restore your work, including available history and reference material.
VoltaScribe retains the existing installation and story-data identity so existing local stories, preferences, and connections can carry forward. Back up your work before upgrading a beta build.
The current beta targets Windows desktop. A hosted writing application and other desktop platforms are not part of this release.
